Desperate Parents Seek Government Aid for Baby with Rare Condition | Bhubaneswar News

Kendrapada: Parents of a one-month-old baby, who was born without properly formed hands and legs in Kendrapada district, have urged chief minister Mohan Majhi to provide financial assistance for his further treatment.
Jhunurani Nayak of Barimula village under Derabishi block gave birth to the boy on Oct 11 in a private hospital. This was her and her husband, Asit Nayak’s, fourth child.
“Doctors in Kendrapada advised us to admit the child to a hospital in Cuttack. But we have no money to provide further treatment,” said Asit.
“When I saw my baby without any limbs, I was shocked. We named him Jagannath,” said Jhunurani.
State govt in 2017 helped Kalia and Jaga, rare conjoined twins and they were separated through an operation in AIIMS in New Delhi.
“The child can lead a happy life after proper treatment. A rare condition called tetra-amelia syndrome causes babies to be born without arms and legs. Nick Vujicic, an Australian preacher and motivational speaker, was born on Dec 4, 1982, with the syndrome,” said Dr Ananda Mohanty, a paediatrician of Kendrapada.
