Delegates from 8 countries to attend state biz summit

Bhubaneswar: Industry leaders from at least eight countries will take part in the Utkarsh Odisha: Make in Odisha Conclave 2025, the state’s flagship investors’ summit, scheduled to be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on January 28, govt authorities said.
Addressing a news conference, industries secretary Hemant Sharma said that while invitations were extended to 12 countries, confirmation has been received from eight. Business delegates from Singapore, the partner country for the event, along with delegates from Australia, Malaysia, Germany, Japan, the UK, Poland and Cuba, are likely to attend the summit. “We expect 5,000 delegates, including envoys from many countries,” he said.
Compared to the previous editions of the flagship business summits, the upcoming one will have a more focused emphasis on attracting labour-intensive industries with an outcome-oriented approach. “Sectors such as IT, renewable energy, chemicals and petrochemicals, and food processing will be among the focus sectors,” he said.
Around 100 of the Fortune 500 companies have been invited to the event, he said. To promote local entrepreneurs, the govt will felicitate 60 young entrepreneurs aged up to 40 years. “Under the 60 under 40 initiative, two entrepreneurs from each of the 30 districts will be honoured during the valedictory function on Jan 29,” he said, adding that the initiative is a part of the govt’s ‘vocal for local’ campaign.
The two-day conclave will be preceded by a series of national council meetings of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) on Jan 27.
