Day temperatures rise across state

Bhubaneswar: Odisha has witnessed a significant rise in daytime temperatures over the past few days, with Boudh recording the state’s highest temperature at 38.8°C on Wednesday. Malkangiri and Angul followed closely behind at 37.5°C and 37.1°C, respectively, while Bhubaneswar registered 35°C.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the current temperature trend is expected to persist for the next three days, followed by a further increase of 2-3°C. However, night temperatures are likely to remain stable over the next 4-5 days.
“The rise in day temperature is typical during the transition from winter to summer,” said Manorama Mohanty, scientist and regional head of IMD Bhubaneswar. Sheadded that several locations have recorded above-normal maximum temperatures in the past three days.
The IMD bulletin highlighted a significant drop in minimum temperatures, with some areas experiencing a decrease of about 4°C and others witnessing a 2°C decline over the past 24 hours. Phulbani recorded the state’s lowest temperature at 15.5°C. The weather department also reported that minimum temperatures were above normal by 3-4°C in interior Odisha and 2-3°C in coastal districts.
IMD officials indicated that night temperatures might witness a slight downward trend in the coming days.
