Day temp rises again, but IMD issues rain alert for today | Mumbai News – The Times of India

Mumbai: Despite overcast skies on Tuesday, city experienced a significant spike in daytime temperatures. The India Meteorological Department’s (IMD) Santacruz observatory recorded a maximum temperature of 37.7°C, a sharp increase from 33.2°C the previous day. This marked a deviation of 4.6°C above normal, indicating unusually warm conditions.
Meanwhile, the IMD’s Colaba observatory recorded a day temperature of 33.5°C, which was 1.1°C above normal, rising from 32.7°C a day earlier. Light rain was observed in pockets such as BKC on Tuesday, but there was no significant rainfall across city. However, the IMD has issued a yellow alert for April 2, warning of thunderstorms with lightning, light to moderate rainfall, and gusty winds at isolated places. A similar alert has been issued for Thane, Palghar, and Raigad.
IMD has attributed the ‘pre monsoon showers‘ to a cyclonic circulation and a trough, which has led to interaction of easterly and westerly winds, making conditions favourable for rain. — Richa Pinto
