Danapur railway station to get escalators and lifts soon | Patna News – Times of India

Escalators, lifts at Danapur stn soon: DRM

Patna: With an increase in footfall, up to one lakh daily, at Danapur railway station, the railways has chalked out a comprehensive plan to improve the infrastructure and provide passenger amenities like lifts and escalators at each platform.
Preliminary work has been started to complete the infrastructure development works in the current fiscal, said Danapur divisional railway manager (DRM) Jayant Kumar Choudhary on Wednesday.
“Keeping in view the huge influx of passengers, the railways has decided to install eight lifts at an estimated cost of Rs 40 lakh and six escalators at a cost of Rs 8 crore at the platforms, especially for the convenience of senior citizens and women with children. While the lifts will be made functional by this year, escalators will become functional by December 2024 or March 2025,” the DRM said, adding the railways has also started installing coach-indication boards at each platform.
Choudhary, who inspected the present track capacity and yard condition of Danapur on Tuesday, said there is a feasibility to further increase line capacity so that more passenger trains could be made operational from here.
“The Danapur station has seven platforms at present with a load capacity to accommodate 24 coaches of mail and express trains. Altogether 10 pairs of long-distance mail and express trains originate from Danapur daily, while 235 passenger trains pass through the station every day. Danapur also has a separate track connectivity to Patliputra Junction,” he said, adding being a satellite town of the state capital, it has become the most preferred place for availing the railway services for both army officers and people from neighbouring places like Neora, Sadisopur, Bihta and Phulwarisharif.
