Bhubaneswar: The commissionerate police on Monday introduced an internship programme for youngsters to hone their cyber security skills. The 2-month programme is aimed at giving them hands-on experience and exposure to the emerging cyber security challenges. “Our objective is to create cyber warriors who can overcome the challenges in the digital world and sensitise others to remain cyber safe,” commissioner of police Sanjeeb Panda said.
In the last four months, the city cyber police station registered at least 100 cases where cyber fraudsters cheated victims of nearly Rs 17.75 crore. While the detection rate stood at 9%, the police succeeded in recovering Rs 20 lakh from the accounts of scammers.
“It is often a challenge to get back the amount as the complainants never report the matter to police immediately. With an increasing dependence on technology, it is imperative to safeguard sensitive information and infrastructure against cyber threats,” DCP Prateek Singh said.
