Bengaluru: When ‘josh’ (fervour) got the better of ‘hosh’ (common sense), or so one thought.It was a birthday celebration like any other — complete with cake-cutting. Except that the cake wasn’t like any other. It was shaped like a cartridge and what was used to cut it wasn’t the average knife, but a machete. Result: The ‘birthday boy’ — in this case an autorickshaw driver named Anil Kumar — was arrested and produced in court. Police said he admitted having “acted in josh”.As video clips of the cake-cutting were passed around, someone forwarded those to the jurisdictional cops at Gudibande police station in Chikkaballapur, prompting the law-keepers to sit up, take note and crack down on Kumar, a resident of Vychukurahalli.The birthday party was held on the night of May 31 at Gudibande, and Kumar was arrested Monday.Surrounded by friends, colleagues and relatives, Kumar, who had no criminal record, pulled out the machete and cut the cake, even as the guests clapped. This was followed by a cocktail party. Later, Kumar took the machete home. “Immediately after receiving the video, we booked Kumar under Section 126 of Bharatiya Nyaya Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) and produced him in court, where he was fined Rs 1,000. He will be produced before the tahsildar Tuesday, where he will have to execute a security bond, promising he will never repeat such an act or indulge in any anti-social activity,” Kushal Choukesy, superintendent of police, Chikkaballapur, told TOI.
