Cuttack Municipal Corporation’s Major Eviction Drive: Clearing Encroachments for Better Traffic Management Near SCB Medical College | Bhubaneswar News
Cuttack: The Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) has initiated an eviction drive on Thursday to remove illegal encroachments along the road near SCB Medical College and Hospital‘s second entry gate at Mangalabag area.
The operation, aimed at decongesting the busy stretch and facilitating road widening, targets 26 identified encroachments, including makeshift shops and unauthorized structures along the 3km stretch.
Under the supervision of CMC deputy commissioner Swetapadma Satapathy, an enforcement team backed by police personnel demolished 10 commercial and residential establishments on the first day of the operation.
“The eviction is crucial for improving traffic management and ensuring easier access to SCB Medical College and Hospital. The widened road will significantly benefit both patients and daily commuters,” said Satapathy. She confirmed that the drive will continue in the coming days until all illegal structures are razed.
The initiative has already resulted in wider roads at Kathagola Sahi and the stretch leading to Ring Road via Shrusti Hospital. Local residents have welcomed the municipal corporation’s action, citing traffic congestion in the area.
“Unauthorized structures occupy the stretch between Mangalabag police station and SCB’s second entry gate, causing traffic congestion,” said Jajati Saran Das, a Mangalabag resident. He added that the clearance would enhance pedestrian safety and improve emergency response when needed.
