CUSB gets Rs 2 crore research grant

Patna: The Central University of South Bihar (CUSB) has received a grant of Rs 2.72 crore from the department of science and technology (DST) under its ‘fund for improvement of science and technology infrastructure’ (FIST) scheme.
CUSB public relations officer Mohd Mudassir Alam told this newspaper that the chemistry department would use this grant to develop chiroptical active molecules and materials and their applications in sensors, catalysis, and theranostics.
Chemistry department head Amiya Priyam said that, under this project, a team of teachers and scientists will conduct studies on the chiroptical properties of nanomaterials and molecules to develop biosensors and cost-effective therapies for various diseases. “The focus is on understanding the chiroptical properties of the organic/inorganic molecules and materials and subsequently utilising this knowledge to provide scientific solutions to some of the pressing problems of the society,” Priyam said.
Expressing his pleasure at the sanction of DST grants to the chemistry department, CUSB vice-chancellor K N Singh said the grants will facilitate interdisciplinary research to develop cost-effective devices and techniques for environmental and biomedical applications “A state-of-the-art, chiroptical research facility, housing several sophisticated instruments such as circularly polarized luminescence spectrometer, circular dichroism spectrometer and many more will be set up soon,” he added.
