Criminals open fire on S’pur lawyer | Patna News – Times of India



Patna: Two motorcycle-borne criminals opened fire on a lawyer in Jamui district while he was returning with his family to his home in Samastipur district after attending a family function in Deoghar in the wee hours of Tuesday.
Two bullets hit the car in which the Samastipur-based lawyer was travelling, after which the driver lost control of the vehicle and dashed it against a tree near Kakan village under the Town police station area of the district.
The lawyer and three other passengers travelling in the car were also injured in the accident. All the injured were admitted to the sadar hospital by the ‘Dial 112’ police team, police said.
The injured have been identified as lawyer Umesh Kumar Singh (45), resident of Mahesi village of Samastipur district, driver Ravindra Kumar Singh, Rachna Kumari and Durga Kumari.
According to a police official, Umesh had gone to Deoghar with his family on June 16 to attend the ‘mundan’ ceremony of his nieces, Rachna Kumari and Durga Kumari, and he was returning to his home in Samastipur.
Town station house officer (SHO) Arun Kumar said, “As soon as his car reached near Kakan village on the Jamui-Lakhisarai main road, two unidentified criminals on a bike waiting for him opened fire on his vehicle. The first bullet hit the left tyre of the car after which the vehicle went out of control.”
The SHO further said that the injured lawyer has named two people from Mahesi village of Samastipur as accused in the compliant by him. He has accused them of plotting to murder him due to an old rivalry. The police are investigating the entire matter, he added.
