Kendrapada: The ad hoc additional district judge-cum-fasttrack (Pocso) court in Jajpur on Wednesday sentenced a woman, a priest and another person to 20 years in prison for their involvement in the abduction, rape and forced marriage of a minor girl in 2020 at a village in Jajpur district.
The court also imposed a fine of Rs 3,000 each on all three convicts.If they fail to pay the amount, it will result in an additional term of six months in their jail sentence.The court instructed Odisha state legal services authority to provide a compensation of Rs 7 lakh to the minor.
The trio was identified as Bhagawan Moharana (27) of Kenduapala village in Keonjhar district, Poonam Agrawalla (45) of Kendudhipi village under Sukinda block and Nirakar Panigrahi (62), a priest of Kotasira village under Bhandaripokhari police station. On September 22, 2020, the girl’s father had lodged an FIR, alleging that Bhagawan kidnapped his daughter on 18 September 2020 and raped her in Poonam’s house. Later, Bhawagan, in collaboration with Poonam, again raped the girl in Nirakar’s house. Subsequently, Bhagawan forcefully married the girl at Nirakar’s house. Following the FIR, the police arrested all the three accused.
