NEW DELHI: A married couple was found dead and burnt within their residence in Bihar’s Nalanda district, according to police reports on Monday.
The incident occurred in Dogi village under Chabilapur police station jurisdiction between Sunday and Monday night. Authorities have launched an investigation into the matter, and local officials are working to gather more details about the situation.
The victims were identified as Vijay Prasad and his wife, both locals of Dogi village.
“Preliminary investigation suggests that the couple was first murdered and the bodies were then set on fire inside their house. The motive behind the murders is not yet known,” stated Nalanda Superintendent of Police Bharat Soni.
Rajgir sub-divisional police officer (SDPO) Sunil Kumar Singh reported, “The incident took place in the intervening night of Sunday and Monday as villagers claimed that both were present at a religious gathering in their village till 11pm-11.30 pm on Sunday.”
The authorities discovered blood marks on the floor of both the room where the bodies were found and an adjacent room, according to Singh.
“By the time police reached the spot early on Monday, the bodies were almost charred. Some remains have been sent for post-mortem examination, while the ashes may be sent for scientific examination,” he stated.
A forensic team has been summoned to collect scientific evidence from the location, the SDPO informed.
Police are currently interrogating Vijay Prasad’s 22-year-old son, who was absent from the house during the incident, added the SDPO.
