Couple, daughter arrested for murder attempt in Odisha’s Rourkela | Bhubaneswar News

ROURKELA: A couple and their daughter were arrested on Saturday night for allegedly attempting to kill a man who was arrested on charges of murdering their son, police said on Sunday.
The accused were identified as Goutam Ghadai (55), Laxmilata Ghadai (45) and their daughter, Manorama Ghadai (25), residents of Timber colony.
Around 11 pm on Friday, Goutam, Laxmilata and Manorama, along with six to seven unidentified youths, arrived at the home of Prince Kumar Ram, police said. When Prince’s aunt opened the door, she was confronted by about 10 people armed with swords, iron rods and axes.
They struck her on the head before forcing their way inside, dragged Prince’s brother, Raj Dipak Prasad, and attacked him with a sword and axe, inflicting grievous abdominal injuries. Hearing the commotion, Dipak’s mother and sister-in-law screamed for help, prompting the attackers to flee.
Dipak was taken to Rourkela Govt Hospital before being referred to a private hospital, where he is receiving treatment. Following an FIR filed at Plant Site police station on Saturday, a case was registered against the attackers. Police arrested the couple and their daughter on Saturday night and launched a search operation to apprehend the others.
The attack was allegedly motivated by the murder of the couple’s son, Sambhunath Ghadai (27), who went missing on Nov 26, 2023. His body was discovered in Pottangi, Koraput district, four days later.
A case was registered at Pottangi police station on Dec 1, leading to the arrest of three individuals, including Dipak. Dipak was released from Koraput jail on bail on Feb 17 this year. Upon learning of his release, Goutam planned the attack to avenge his son’s death, police said.
