Counting for 3 MLC seats to begin today

Hyderabad: Counting for the Member of Legislative Council (MLC) elections will begin at 8 am on Monday, Telangana chief electoral officer (CEO) C Sudharshan Reddy has said. The counting process will be conducted under camera surveillance, with webcasting arrangements in place.
The counting would take place in multiple shifts, with 16 to 25 tables set up at each counting centre for the Graduates’ and Teachers’ constituencies, with the required counting staff already in place.
Invalid votes will be removed after being shown to representatives of political parties, and the quota for candidates will then be determined before the counting proceeds.
“At every counting table, there will be a supervisor and two assistants. For Karimnagar graduates’ constituency, 22 tables have been arranged, while for teachers 14 tables. For Nalgonda teachers’ constituency, 25 tables have been put in place. The mock counting was done on Sunday before political parties,” he added.
Polling for the elections concluded on Thursday for one graduates’ and two teachers’ constituencies. The Medak-Nizamabad-Adilabad-Karimnagar graduates’ constituency had recorded 70.4% voter turnout, while the teachers’ constituency registered 91.9%. In the Warangal-Khammam-Nalgonda teachers’ MLC election, the turnout stood at 93.55%.
Sudarshan Reddy stated that the counting of votes in the teachers’ constituencies is expected to be completed in about one-and-a-half days, while the graduates’ constituency results may take two to three days due to the preferential voting system. Sorting and bundling of ballot papers would begin on March 3 morning, but actual counting might start in the afternoon or late evening. The results for the teachers’ constituency are likely to be declared by March 4 afternoon.
The Medak-Nizamabad-Adilabad-Karimnagar graduates’ constituency has around 3.55 lakh registered voters, with 56 candidates contesting. In the teachers’ constituencies, 15 candidates are in the fray in Karimnagar, while Nalgonda has 19 contenders.
Security arrangements, including barricading and police deployment, have been completed at counting centres.
