Council ethics panel recommends removal of RJD’s Sunil | Patna News – Times of India
Patna: The ethics committee of the legislative council on Thursday recommended that RJD MLC Sunil Kumar Singh be relieved of his membership for using “defamatory words” against the leader of the House, chief minister Nitish Kumar, during the Budget session in February. Now, the members of the Upper House will take the final decision on the ethics committee report on Friday.
The ethics committee was directed to submit a report by the then chairperson on a complaint in this regard, filed by MLC Bhishma Sahni, against Singh.
The committee, headed by deputy chairperson Ram Vachan Rai, tabled the report during the second half of the House session on Thursday, stating that in light of article 290 (10) (D) of Bihar Legislative Council, it recommended that Sunil Kumar Singh be relieved of his membership.
“Being the chief whip of the opposition, his (Sunil) legislative responsibility, and adaption of rules and regulations should be more than others. But his behaviour was otherwise. After coming to the well, he raised unrestrained slogans, hindered the functioning of the House, disrespected the instruction from the chair, used defamatory words for the leader of the House, trying to humiliate him, and in a way damaged the dignity of the legislative council. The committee thinks that Dr Sunil Kumar Singh, because of such behaviour, has lost the eligibility to be the member of the House,” stated the report.
A complaint was also filed against another RJD MLC, Qari Sohaib, however, the committee, in its report, stated that Singh’s action was more serious. Sources said Sohaib was pardoned after he apologised, in written, for his behaviour, saying he was a new member.
RJD leader Tejashwi Prasad Yadav said people will give a befitting reply during the next election. “On what basis is it being done? This is dictatorship,” said Yadav.
