Cops reach out to Pak woman living in Jamshedpur, ask her to apply for LTV

Berhampur: Police have reached out to a 60-year-old Pakistani woman, who is currently staying at her daughter’s house in Jamshedpur, asking her to submit fresh application for long-term visa (LTV) following the Centre’s latest directive.
The widow, originally from Rawalpindi, Pakistan, has been living in Berhampur for 39 years since marrying a local man in 1986. But she has failed to get Indian citizenship despite applying for it.
“We have intimated the woman about the latest order of the govt and to take advantage of it,” SP (Berhampur) Saravana Vivek M said on Tuesday. The MHA on Tuesday allowed Pakistani nationals to apply for LTV from May 10 to July 10.
The direction comes as a relief for the woman who was earlier served with ‘quit India’ notice by Berhampur police.
The woman has three daughters. Her eldest daughter is married in Jamshedpur, her second daughter is married to a businessman in Berhampur. Her third daughter is unmarried. Since her husband’s death in 2023, she has been receiving pension under Madhu Babu Pension Yojana (MBPY).
The elderly woman is now in Jamshedpur to take care of her son-in-law, who is suffering from a kidney ailment, said her brother-in-law. “After coming to Berhampur following her marriage, she never went back to Pakistan. None of her family members are in Pakistan. She wants to spend the rest of her life with her daughters and other relatives here,” the brother-in-law said. He said her application for Indian citizenship is pending with the govt.
