Cops launch hunt for accused after two shot at in Sundargarh | Bhubaneswar News

Rourkela: A special Rourkela police team has launched a manhunt to trace two individuals, one of whom shot at a grocery shopowner and a customer at Tamda Haat in Sundargarh district on Friday evening.With towels wrapped around their heads to conceal their identities, the duo arrived on a motorcycle around 7:45 pm. Eyewitnesses said one got off the vehicle, approached the shopkeeper and demanded money, while the other kept watch. When shopowner Shiv Shankar Sahu of Tainsar questioned the demand, the assailant pulled out a gun and opened fire, hitting him in the chest. Another bullet struck a customer in the leg.The third shot missed its target.Sahu was first rushed to Rourkela Govt Hospital and later shifted to a private facility, where he is undergoing treatment. Doctors are scheduled to perform surgery on Monday to remove the bullet in his chest. The injured customer is also undergoing treatment.Following the incident, Rourkela SP Nitesh Wadhwani directed the formation of a special police team to identify and nab the accused. On Saturday, Bonai SDPO, along with personnel from multiple police stations and a forensic team, visited the crime scene and examined CCTV footage. Police recovered two empty shells and a live round from the site. Preliminary findings suggest a 7 mm pistol was used in the attack.Police also recorded Sahu’s statement. Although he denied knowledge of why he was targeted, police suspect the attack could be linked to business rivalry. “Efforts are on to identify the two miscreants and arrest them,” said Sabita Patra, inspector in-charge, Chandiposh police station.
