Cop says woman blackmailing using his semi-nude pics | Mumbai News – The Times of India

Mumbai: An assistant police inspector, formerly posted with Mumbai Police and currently attached to a police station elsewhere in the state, has lodged a complaint against a woman and three of her family for blackmailing him and extorting money from him. The woman threatened to circulate his semi-nude images if he failed to pay Rs 10 lakh. The officer paid Rs 2.7 lakh over the years. A criminal offence has been registered in this case at a city police station.
In 2019, the officer was posted at the police station in the city. The officer has claimed that the woman texted him under the pretext of sending Diwali wishes, despite not knowing him personally. She visited him at the police station and asked him to counsel her brother about keeping off drugs. Gradually, the two started speaking on phone regularly. During the pandemic, the officer was infected with Covid-19. Once he recovered, the woman visited him at a beat chowky and told him she had feelings for him. The officer told her he was married. The woman told him she was expecting a baby from her husband from whom she was estranged, says the complaint.
The extortion allegedly started in 2021. The woman and her brother demanded Rs 10 lakh and threatened to frame the officer in a rape case. They also threatened to tell his wife about “their relationship”, says the complaint. The officer paid her from time to time.
In 2023, the woman and her relative visited the district where the cop is now posted and he met them and told them not to return. In Apr 2023, the officer was injured in a road crash. The woman continued to harass him, says his complaint. For a fortnight, the woman went missing and her family held him responsible. He has said in his complaint that he started therapy for depression. Till Dec 2023, the woman kept asking for money, and listed his name as her ‘husband’ in govt documents.
