Hyderabad: A senior police officer out on his morning walk was mowed down by a speeding APSRTC bus in Hayathnagar on Saturday morning.
The accident happened around 4.30 am when additional superintendent of police TM Nandeeswara Babji (56) was crossing the road near a temple on the Hyderabad-Vijayawada national highway.
Babji was hit by the bus (AP39VA9563) from Nuzvid depot. Driver Kiran Kumar was reportedly driving the bus at high speed and failed to notice Babji crossing the road. The bus struck Babji with force, causing fatal injuries.
“Babji received multiple injuries and died on the spot,” a cop said.
Babji was posted at the police control room in Rachakonda commissionerate and was a resident of Laxma Reddy Palem colony in Pedda Amberpet. He is survived by his wife and a son.
Police confirmed that driver Kiran Kumar was not under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident. He has been taken into custody.
A case has been registered based on a complaint filed by Babji’s wife Bhagyalaxmi.
