Patna: In a proactive move to address the persistent issue of waterlogging in Patna, the Bihar Urban Infrastructure Development Corporation (BUIDCO) has established a high-tech control room at the Integrated Command and Control Centre (ICCC). This temporary facility, operational from June 1 to June 30, will monitor waterlogged areas across the city using 16 strategically placed CCTV cameras.The control room will be staffed round-the-clock in three shifts, ensuring constant vigilance throughout the monsoon period.“BUIDCO is on alert mode for the upcoming monsoon. Initiatives are being taken to address complaints through a special control room to ensure that the general public does not face any problems during the rain,” said BUIDCO managing director Animesh Kumar Parashar. “Personnel have been assigned to the control room in three shifts to ensure timely water drainage at any time during rainfall. This control room of BUIDCO will operate in the ICCC, where all personnel will specifically monitor waterlogging in the city from June 1 to June 30,” he added.There are nine main pumping stations across the city, where water levels are being monitored in real-time. From the control room, personnel can track whether a pump is functioning, its power consumption, operational hours, and even temperature. If water levels reach 10 feet, an alarm will trigger, prompting immediate activation of all pumping stations. A colour-coded system indicates pump status: red for active, green for inactive and yellow for tripping.“This control room will operate in three shifts — 6am to 2pm, 2pm to 10pm and 10pm to 6am. Reports will be collected every four hours from all personnel on duty. Complaints received in the control room will be immediately forwarded to senior officials. The status of motor pump operations, electricity supply, diesel availability and staff attendance will be updated regularly,” Parashar added.He said the city’s drainage pumping stations are integrated with the ICCC. When the water level rises in the sump house, the pumps will automatically activate. These stations are equipped with water level, temperature and vibration sensors, and are monitored 24/7 via CCTV.Residents have welcomed the initiative. Prateek Kumar of Sri Krishna Puri said, “It is a good initiative to check and monitor the water-logged locations, especially the low-lying areas. However, the open construction sites should be filled up first before the monsoon.”
