Congress hits back at Narendra Modi: ‘When will RSS pick a dalit as head?’ | Mumbai News – The Times of India

MUMBAI/PUNE: Hitting back at PM Narendra Modi for asking Congress to appoint a Muslim person as AICC chief if its sympathy for the community is genuine, MPCC president Harshwardhan Sapkal on Monday wondered when RSS would appoint a dalit, a Muslim or a woman as its head.
He pointed out that the current AICC chief, Mallikarjun Kharge, is a dalit.
“Modi’s statement about Congress is utterly ridiculous and inappropriate,” he said, adding that the party’s contribution to the freedom struggle is well known and well documented and it has a glorious history that cannot be denied at any level.
Sapkal’s remarks came amid MPCC’s decision to hold a ‘Sadbhavna Yatra’ (peace march) in Nagpur on Wednesday to counter communal politics. Nagpur saw riots last month following a row over Aurangzeb’s tomb.
Accusing Mahayuti of indulging in divisive politics for its gain, Sapkal urged citizens to join the rally. “Ever since Mahayuti came to power, it has only sought to pit different castes and religions against each other. BJP does not believe in unity in diversity and is creating disturbance by going against our Constitution. Congress and like-minded parties will not allow BJP to succeed.”
