Mumbai: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and the Congress betrayed the country by contesting the Delhi polls separately, Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut said on Sunday.
“If they contested together, the result would be different, the figures show this. They are both responsible. They should have talked and discussed seat sharing. They fought separately and both lost. This is a betrayal of the country,” said Raut.
“This is what the BJP wants. For the Opposition parties to keep fighting so that it can win. Those who do not understand this will not be able to defeat dictatorship,” he said.
He said that the message of the Delhi polls was for the Opposition to come together for the next contest. “We have to decide whether to come together. If we do not, it means we accept one-party rule. Will the country, the democracy, and the voice of the Opposition survive?”
However, Raut said that the INDIA alliance will survive and contest together. “The India bloc is together and will remain together. We may not be in power at this point, but we will continue to raise the voice of the people,” he said.
He also said that the BJP was like a swelling which will subside. “It’s like a swelling caused after an accident. A swelling caused by the use of money and power. The swelling will start to subside.”
Raut criticised anti-corruption crusader Anna Hazare for rejoicing in Kejriwal’s defeat. “Where was he in the last 12 years when there were so many corruption scandals? Those who Hazare accused of corruption are now in the BJP. What does he have to say about that?” he asked. He said that Hazare was happy even though democracy was suffering.
Raut said that the BJP used the Maharashtra pattern in Delhi. “They tampered with the EVM and the voter lists. They distributed a lot of money and they imprisoned Opposition leaders. It is the same pattern that they used in Maharashtra,” said Raut.
