Requests of 139 communities from Odisha for ST status pending with Centre
The Odisha government has been awaiting the Centre’s approval for the inclusion of 139 communities in the Scheduled Tribe category. Among these are the Jhodia tribe of Rayagada and Koraput districts. The state has made repeated requests, the latest being in 2019, but they remain pending. Without ST status, these communities miss out on essential government benefits and reservations.
