Combing ops intensified in Kandhamal, Boudh | Bhubaneswar News

Berhampur: Anti-Maoist operations in Kandhamal and Boudh were intensified on Tuesday after 12 rebels were gunned down in an encounter in Kularighat reserve forest in Chhattisgarh’s Gariabandh district, about 5 km from the border with Nuapada, early Tuesday.
DGP Y B Khurania on Tuesday alerted the SPs of Maoist-affected districts and asked them to intensify operations in vulnerable areas.
“Combing operations in vulnerable areas of Kandhamal and Boudh have been intensified after the encounter near the Odisha-Chhattisgarh border,” said Sarthak Sarangi, IG (southern range).
He, however, ruled out that any Maoist cadre from Chhattisgarh had shifted to Kandhamal and Boudh following the encounter. “Our forces are constantly watching their movements. We have no report about their entry in Kandhamal and Boudh districts,” he said.
Though there was no major Maoist-related incident reported in the two districts, cadres of the KKBN (Kalahandi-Kandhamal-Boudh-Nayagarh) division are apparently active in the area, sources said.
In the first week of Jan, security forces busted a Maoist camp at Murduli in Kandhamal district. A country-made gun, sling, IEDs and several belongings, along with ration items, were seized from the camp.
A divisional committee member of CPI (Maoist) was killed in an encounter in Budanai forest in Kandhamal district on Oct 25, 2024. An AK-47 rifle was recovered.
