Coal ministry seals pacts for three mines in Angul

Bhubaneswar: Coal ministry on Monday executed coal mining development and production agreements for three mines located in Angul district.
The mines for which agreements were executed are Machhakata (revised) coal mine for which the successful bidder was NLC India Limited, Kudanali Lubri coal mine (Gujarat Mineral Development Corporation Ltd) and Sakhigopal-B Kakurhi coal mine, for which bid was won by Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation Ltd.
The three mines in the coal belt of Talcher were auctioned under the second attempt of the seventh round. While the first two mines are partially explored, the third one is fully explored.
A govt statement said estimated annual revenue generation under commercial auction from these three mines is around Rs 2,991.20 crore, based on production at an aggregated peak rate capacity of 30 MTPA.
Once operational, these mines have the potential to create approximately 40,560 jobs. An investment of Rs 4,500 crore is required to bring these coal mines into operation.
Machhakata has total 1,377 million tonnes of coal reserves. The nearest railway station of Angul is about 42 km from the northeastern boundary of the coal block spread over 19.99 square km. Kudanali-Luburi block, spread over 6.7 square km, has 396.10 MT of reserves. Sakhigopal-B Kakurhi, spread across 6.53 square km, has 421 MT of coal reserves.
