Co-op society officials held on graft charge

Chennai: Secretary and superintendent of a district cooperative society in Thiruvallur were arrested by DVAC sleuths on Friday for allegedly accepting a bribe of 15,000 from an applicant who was sanctioned a loan.
According to sources, the applicant applied for a loan to start a restaurant business, with a district cooperative society by pledging his land documents and was sanctioned 12 lakh. Before handing over the cheque, secretary Ramalingam demanded a bribe of 17,000 and directed that it be paid to the superintendent working under him. After haggling to bring it down to 15,000, the applicant approached DVAC officials, who set up a trap and caught the two officials red-handed. Further investigations are underway.
