Co-op society in-charge held for taking bribe of Rs 3k | Bhubaneswar News

Koraput: Vigilance sleuths on Wednesday caught the branch in-charge of Kunduli Large-sized Adivasi Multi-purpose Cooperative Society (LAMPCS) under Semiliguda block in the district while allegedly accepting bribe of Rs 3,000 from a millet farmer for procuring his produce. The accused was identified as Satyanarayan Challan.
According to a vigilance release, Challan initially demanded Rs 45 per 50 kg bag of millet. The complainant was set to supply a total of 117 bags, making the total demanded bribe amount around Rs 5,200.
However, following negotiations, Challan reduced the amount to Rs 3,000 and refused to accept the millet unless the bribe was paid, prompting the farmer to file a complaint with the vigilance department.
Acting on the complaint, vigilance officers laid a trap and caught Challan red-handed while receiving the bribe at his office in Kunduli. “The bribe money was recovered from his possession,” the vigilance release stated.
Following the trap, simultaneous searches are being conducted at two locations linked to Challan to investigate possible disproportionate assets, and details are awaited, it added.
