CMO denies staying 3.2k cr contract of ex-health minister | Mumbai News – The Times of India

Mumbai: Even as TV reports claimed chief minister Devendra Fadnavis stayed a Rs 3,200 crore contract from the health department, which was signed during the tenure of former health minister from the Shiv Sena Tanaji Sawant, the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) denied this.
“No such file has come before the CMO,” a senior official said. However, state health minister Prakash Abitkar did not issue a flat denial. “If any irregularity was committed, it should be investigated. There is nothing wrong with that,” he said.
The Opposition Shiv Sena (UBT), which ran a news report on the issue in its party mouthpiece Saamna, criticised Sawant, who belongs to deputy chief minister Eknath Shinde’s party.
“Tanaji Sawant is known for corruption. This is why the BJP did not want him in the cabinet.”
Meanwhile, social justice minister Sanjay Shirsat, who belongs to the Shiv Sena, said, “The process for decisions on contracts is decided by the commissioner in the department. The role of the minister is very limited.”
Sources say that while there was no stay on this contract, the Centre asked for a review of a scheme under the National Rural Health Mission. While the scheme allowed for only 5% construction, the state overshot this limit, and the extent of construction reached 15%. As a result, the Centre asked for a review of the programme, said sources.
