CM speaks to Nepal foreign minister, promises action against guilty in univ incident | Bhubaneswar News

Bhubaneswar: CM Mohan Charan Majhi on Saturday spoke to Nepal’s foreign minister Arzu Rana Deuba over phone and assured him of strict action against those responsible for the alleged harassment of Nepalese students at a private education institute in the city. The CM’s response came after Deuba requested the Odisha govt to dismiss certain university officials for their alleged role in forcing Nepalese students to vacate the campus following the unrest in the aftermath of the suicide of a BTech student recently.
“The chief minister assured strict measures against those responsible for harassing Nepalese students. He emphasised that Nepalese students in Odisha would receive the same care as local students. The Nepalese students would continue their studies with full dignity, with the state govt actively monitoring the situation to rebuild student confidence and trust,” the CMO’s statement said.
Highlighting her conversation with Majhi, Deuba posted on X, “I spoke to Odisha chief minister Mohan Charan Majhi over the phone and urged him to conduct a fair investigation into her death and take legal action against the culprits, as well as to ensure a safe environment for Nepali students studying there. I urged him to take the initiative to remove the teachers and staff who misbehaved with Nepali students from the college, not temporarily, but permanently.”
Two Nepal Embassy officials from Delhi had also met Majhi to discuss the incident at KIIT. The chief minister informed them about the arrest of 10 university employees and said that others involved in the incident would also face action based on the findings of the high-level govt probe panel.
“The Nepalese officials expressed satisfaction with the govt’s response. They thanked the Odisha govt, particularly the chief minister. They expressed optimism about maintaining strong Nepal-Odisha relations,” the CMO said.
Meanwhile, Youth Congress members protested outside KIIT, demanding action against the senior management. A brief altercation occurred when police prevented their entry into the campus. No injuries were reported.
