CM, others remember SuMo on his birth anniv | Patna News – Times of India

Patna: CM Nitish Kumar, accompanied by other dignitaries, paid floral tributes to the portrait of former deputy CM and senior BJP leader Sushil Kumar Modi at the Shri Krishna Memorial (SKM) hall, marking his birth anniversary celebration. The event was attended by a host of political figures, including state assembly speaker Nand Kishore Yadav, Union ministers Nityanand Rai and Giriraj Singh, Patna Sahib MP Ravi Shankar Prasad, deputy CMs Samrat Choudhary and Vijay Kumar Sinha, JD(U) minister Vijay Kumar Choudhary, former MPs Ashwini Kumar Choubey and Ram Kripal Yadav, among others.
Modi had served as Nitish’s deputy and state finance minister during the NDA govt before 2020. Both he and Nitish had been active participants in the 1974 students’ movement led by Jaya Prakash Narayan (JP), a pivotal moment in their political careers. Several BJP lawmakers and functionaries, including Ravi Shankar Prasad and Ashwini Kumar Choubey, who were also part of that historic movement, gathered to pay their respects to Modi.
The event was organised by the newly formed Sushil Kumar Modi Smriti Shodh Sansthan, led by one Sanjay Gupta. Alongside the tributes, the organisers set up a photo exhibition to showcase Modi’s life, his contributions and his works. Modi’s wife and two sons attended the function as well, expressing their heartfelt gratitude for the large-scale public recognition of his life and legacy.
“Modi prepared the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad and BJP workers across the state. His life and works have been an inspiration for all. People have come from distant parts of the state to pay their respects to him,” health minister Mangal Pandey said.
State BJP chief and minister Dilip Kumar Jaiswal talked about Modi’s deep-rooted connection with the RSS and ABVP. “Modi was humble enough to seek knowledge and insights about anything — from politics to administration — from anyone better informed,” Jaiswal said.
Deputy CM Samrat Choudhary also recalled Modi’s influence on the party. “Modi will continue to inspire party workers. As finance minister, he helped create a system and database in the department that allows one to easily access any set of information, without wasting time,” Choudhary said.
The occasion saw the presence of other senior BJP and JD(U) netas, including former Union ministers Radha Mohan Singh and Shahnawaz Hussain, as well as various MLAs, MLCs and state BJP functionaries.
