Patna: The city is set to witness the inauguration of yet another landmark memorial dedicated to the memory of Mahatma Gandhi, the Father of the Nation. “The upcoming Bapu Tower, located in the Gardanibagh locality, is almost ready and will be open to the public for viewing after one-and-a-half months,” CM Nitish Kumar announced on Sunday.
“Bapu Tower is emerging as a very good landmark.I have visited it regularly during its construction and also gave advice during the work in progress on it,” the CM said.
Under the leadership of CM Nitish Kumar, Patna’s cultural landscape has undergone a remarkable transformation, with several grand monumental sites being erected in honour of Mahatma Gandhi. These include the giant-sized monumental bronze metal statue installed at Gandhi Maidan and the Bapu Sabhagar located on the campus of the nearby Ashoka Convention Centre. These monuments not only serve as a tribute to the great leader but also act as reminders of his profound impact on India’s freedom struggle and his enduring legacy.
During his inspection of the Bapu Tower on Sunday, the CM visited the first and fifth floors of the building. On the first floor, he spent time in the Orientation Hall, where he watched a film depicting the life, activities, and teachings of Mahatma Gandhi on a rotating screen. The CM emphasized the importance of maintaining the surrounding compound as a “green area” and instructed the building construction department officials to ensure that the campus and its appearance are well-managed.
The Bapu Tower will feature a gallery showcasing the life, activities, and thoughts of Mahatma Gandhi, as well as his deep connection with Bihar. The CM stressed the significance of presenting the accompanying texts in lucid and comprehensible Hindi and English languages, making it easier for visitors to understand and appreciate the exhibits.
Nitish was accompanied by several individuals during his inspection, including ministers Vijay Kumar Choudhary and Jayant Raj, Rajya Sabha member Sanjay Kumar Jha, his principal secretary Deepak Kumar, building construction department secretary Kumar Ravi, CM’s secretary Anupam Kumar, and special secretary in CM secretariat Chandrashekhar Singh.
