Bhubaneswar: A climate resilience cell (CRC) was inaugurated at Krushi Bhavan on Tuesday in a bid to enhance the state’s efforts in building climate resilient agriculture.
The CRC has been constituted for implementation and monitoring of the state action plan on climate change (SAPCC).
“Department of agriculture and farmers’ empowerment in collaboration with international institutional partners planned to create a carbon sensitive policy framework for collaborative research, policy analytics, institutional capacity building and policy engagement and outreach in the backdrop of climate change in Odisha,” an official source said.The main knowledge partners are International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI), and the Centre for Study of Science, Technology and Policy (CSTEP).
Speaking at the occasion, deputy chief minister Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo said, “It is a critical need for adopting climate-resilient agricultural practices in the current scenario. To ensure sustainable production and food and nutrition security for all, it is imperative that we move towards climate-resilient practices.”
“IFPRI and CSTEP have been roped in to work closely with the department and support the CRC in implementing sustainable agricultural food systems, building capacity, and advocating for effective policies,,” Singh Deo added.
