Balasore: A Class 9 student allegedly died by suicide after being denied access to a mobile phone in Balia area under Sahadevkhunta Police Station limits in Balasore district on Thursday.The 15-year-old boy, identified as Priyanshu Pritam Giri, son of Tapan Giri, was found hanging from a ceiling fan with a bedsheet at his home.According to initial reports, Priyanshu had reportedly been spending excessive time on his mobile phone. Concerned about his academic performance, his mother recently advised him to reduce screen time and focus on his studies. The incident is suspected to have occurred following a disagreement over the issue.The boy’s body was discovered by family members and later recovered by the police, who reached the spot shortly after being informed. The body has been sent for autopsy and an investigation has been initiated.“He was quiet, but we never thought he would take such a step. My mother only wanted him to concentrate on his studies. She didn’t scold him harshly —just told him to keep the phone aside and focus. We are devastated,” Jyoti Jiban Giri, elder brother of the deceased, said, holding back tears.“A case of unnatural death has been registered,” Ajay Kumar Murmu, inspector in-charge of Sahadevkhunta police station, said.
