Tazia processions witness clashes in several districts

Patna: Minor incidents of clashes were reported from various districts during Muharram on Wednesday. Reports of clashes came from Munger, Vaishali, Motihari, Sitamarhi and Muzaffarpur.
In the state capital, a shop was vandalised late on Tuesday night during the Tazia procession in the Raja Bazaar locality.
Police said initially the shopkeeper reported an attack, but after a meeting with the police on Wednesday morning, he took back his statement about the vandalism.The Patna district administration also denied any vandalism and issued a press release stating that the glass of the shop was mistakenly broken during stunts with sticks at the Tazia procession.
In Muzaffarpur district on Tuesday night, a police team that arrived to seize a DJ during a Muharram procession was attacked. The crowd pelted stones on the police team, injuring some officers. The miscreants chased the police for about a kilometre. The trapped policemen were also assaulted. Several police vehicles were damaged.
Somehow the police force and vehicles left the spot. Some people in the crowd blocked the road and started creating a ruckus. They also assaulted passers by and pelted stones on their vehicles. More than a dozen vehicles, including buses and cars, were damaged.
Muzaffarpur Town ASP, Bhanu Pratap Singh, said, “Two persons have been detained for interrogation. No major injuries have been reported by anyone. The incident took place in Sipahpur Bakhri under Ahiyapur police station.”
Police detained a youth after he was found waving a Palestinian flag in Mehsi police station area of Motihari during a Tazia procession. A video of the procession was posted on the social media, after which police detained the youth.
Chakia SDPO, Satyendra Singh said, “The youth is being interrogated.”
