Civic body seeks suggestions from intellectuals for upkeep of Ramna park in Ara – Times of India

Ara: The Ara Municipal Corporation (AMC) has sought suggestions from the intellectuals of the town on the ways to keep the Ramna maidan park, situated in the heart of the town, well maintained.
At a meeting convened with social activists recently, Ara mayor Indu Devi said that it is the duty of every citizen to keep the Ramna maidan park, also known as the ‘lungs of Ara’, clean.
“The Ramna maidan, which has now become the Ramna maidan park, after the NTPC developed it under its corporate social responsibility (CSR), has now come under the AMC’s jurisdiction. Now, it is the duty of the AMC to make the keep the park clean and well-maintained. Since it is a public park, the AMC has also sought suggestions from the local intellectuals for its upkeep,” said the mayor.
At present, entry to the park is free. “However, charging an entry fee would be discussed in the board’s meeting of the municipal corporation and then it will be forwarded to the DM, whose decision in the matter will be final,” she said.
For the upkeep of the park, the mayor said there are plans to engage more sanitation workers. “Gardeners will be assigned the job of maintaining the plants in the park. Also, security guards will be deployed to keep an eye on anti-social elements.”
Talking to this newspaper, social activist Aashutosh Pandey, who participated in the meeting, said: “NTPC’s initiative has added beauty to the park, but it is also the responsibility of the residents of Ara to keep it neat and clean. A moderate fee should be charged from the visitors for its proper upkeep.”
Another participant in the meeting said, “Most people agreed on the proposal to charge a moderate fee of Rs 10 from 9 am onwards. It was also suggested to issue a monthly pass worth Rs 100 for the regular visitors to the park. However, some people were of the opinion that the entry should be free of cost since it is a public place.”
