City Zoo’s 51st Foundation Day Celebrations | Patna News – Times of India
Patna: On the occasion of its 51st foundation day, Sanjay Gandhi Biological Park, commonly known as Patna zoo, organised various programmes.
The day also marked the end of the year-long golden jubilee celebrations that had started the previous year on the same date.
Prem Kumar, the minister of environment, forest and climate change, inaugurated the post-mortem room for animals on the premises during the event.
According to officials, the room will assist in determining the actual cause of animal deaths. The zoo education hall also hosted an exhibition of bird sketch arts on the day.
Additionally, 110 students from different schools and organizations in the state capital participated in an environment-related quiz competition and a pot-painting contest organized as part of the event.
The minister also presented awards to the participants of the nature education camp, which took place from June 12 to 15, as well as to the zoo volunteers for their contributions.
Satyajeet Kumar, the director of Patna zoo, discussed future plans, stating that efforts were underway to bring in many animals, including kangaroos, jaguars, and green anacondas (one of the world’s largest snakes), in the coming days, and negotiations were ongoing for the same. “There are 93 species and around 1,100 animals at Patna zoo at the moment,” Kumar said, adding the post-mortem room was built at a cost of Rs 16 lakh.
The zoo, established in 1973, covers an area of approximately 153 acres. Several other officials, including Prabhat Kumar Gupta, the principal chief conservator of forest, Abhay Kumar, the director of ecology and environment, and Shashibhushan Prasad, the deputy director (Patna zoo), were present along with many others.
