City welcomes 2025 with joyous celebrations | Bhubaneswar News



Bhubaneswar: The capital city came alive with dazzling lights, energetic beats and cheerful celebrations as people welcomed 2025 in style. With events organised at hotels, clubs, pubs and resorts, revelry was both grand and memorable. As the clock struck midnight, the streets echoed with cheers, music and people greeting each other.
Revellers thronged popular venues where themed parties, live music and DJs created an electrifying atmosphere.Delicious cuisines and a variety of beverages added to the charm. “New Year’s Eve party was spectacular. The DJ set the mood right with mind-blowing music, and it was amazing to see everyone in such high spirits,” said Ananya Mohapatra, a young professional.
Many families preferred quieter celebrations, attending dinners or hosting house parties. “It’s the perfect time to reconnect with family and friends. We spent the evening at a cosy resort where everyone, including the kids, enjoyed,” said businessman Sushant Das.
“Come, let’s pledge on the occasion of the New Year to give our best for constructing a superior and Viksit Odisha,” chief minister Mohan Majhi said in a video post on X. He also wished that Lord Jagannath bring happiness and prosperity to everyone’s lives.
Commissionerate police issued guidelines for ‘zero night’ celebrations in Bhubaneswar asking to keep sound below 65 decibels at parties and to avoid overcrowding and unnecessary congregations. Police instructed organisers to ensure no obscenity, vulgarity or immoral content during the programmes. Police asked organisers to ensure that alcohol consumption and fireworks were permitted.
Police forces were deployed at 29 checkpoints to check criminal activities from 6 pm to 2 am. Vehicle checking using breathalysers was done at 18 points, sources said.
Many headed towards Puri to have darshan of Lord Jagannath on the first day of the 2025. Expecting a large number of visitors on Wednesday, the Puri administration deployed 60 platoons of police forces across the city, including sea beaches. Huge crowds thronged popular tourist places like Nandankanan, Khandagiri-Udayagiri, and Dhauli to witness the last sunset of 2024.
“All hotels were booked, or wherever it was available, the prices skyrocketed. We planned to spend the year-end in Puri but failed to get accommodation. We decided to go on Wednesday morning, for which we will start early,” said Pradyumna Rout, a resident of Sailashree Vihar.
Temples in Bhubaneswar and Cuttack received a surge of devotees seeking blessings for a prosperous year. Shrines like Lingaraj Temple and Cuttack Chandi Temple implemented special crowd-management arrangements. “We have set up barricades and additional security to ensure smooth darshan for devotees,” said a temple trustee.
