City to get 3rd traffic police station: CM | Bhubaneswar News

Bhubaneswar: CM Mohan Charan Majhi announced the establishment of a third traffic police station in the city while presiding over the graduation ceremony of 4 deputy superintendents of police and 171 sub-inspectors here on Friday.
The CM outlined initiatives to bolster the police force through increased staffing, additional vehicles and modern equipment and technology. Majhi said while recruitment for 2,922 posts across various ranks is underway, an additional proposal for 655 personnel appointments is being considered.
Majhi highlighted ongoing recruitment of 609 SIs, 253 SIs (armed), 2,885 constables and 300 constables (communication). Additionally, three new Indian Reserve and six Odisha Industrial Security Force battalions will be established, creating 7,000 positions, he said.
Majhi urged police personnel to enhance their investigative capabilities, citing the Feb 13 arrest of notorious ‘Spider’ Sateesh, who allegedly stole valuable gold and diamond jewellery from senior Congress members Niranjan Patnaik’s residence in Jan. “Criminals have turned hi-tech these days. Thief ‘Spider’ Sateesh, who could climb walls like a spider, was a good catch by police,” Majhi said.
The CM stressed that maintaining law and order is crucial for attracting investments and industrial growth. He highlighted the police force’s essential role in implementing the govt’s industrial initiatives. Majhi advised police officers to disregard unfounded criticism from opposition parties, noting that they often use the police to indirectly criticise the govt.
Majhi acknowledged the challenges faced by Odisha police and affirmed the govt’s commitment to addressing the concerns. Majhi later virtually inaugurated 14 new police station buildings set up at a cost of Rs 42 crore in different districts.
