Bhubaneswar: City police on Tuesday arrested the main accused, Bunty alias Muzafar Kumbhar, and his aide Bijay Nayak in connection with the murder of Baramunda businessman Nabaghana Patasani.
Police said Bunty used to oversee the business of Nabaghana and was taking care of hiring excavators, tractors and other vehicles. Nabaghana had promised to give Bunty a monthly pay for his work but he didn’t keep his promise.Angered over non-payment, Bunty decided to eliminate Nabaghana, the police said.
“For the past seven months, Bunty was staying in a hotel in Ghatikia. He was planning to open a restaurant for which he needed investment. Bunty had accrued some debt which he wanted to repay by taking money from Nabaghana. But the businessman turned down all his requests. Bunty then decided to take revenge,” said a police officer.
City police commissioner Sanjeeb Panda said Bunty hatched a plan to kill Nabaghana and invited him to his hotel room, where they had a party. “Bunty slit Nabaghana’s throat using a knife, which he had bought earlier. After killing him, he took the help of Bijay, who is a driver.
He purchased a polythene sheet from Khandagiri Square, wrapped the body and took it in Bijay’s vehicle and threw it from the Kandala bridge near Govindpur, Cuttack,” he said.
Police have found the murder weapon and other incriminating materials from the accused.
Bunty is of Birmaharajpur in Sonepur district while Bijay is a native of Kandhamal district.
On July 20, Nabaghana’s body was recovered by Govindpur police. Nabaghana had gone missing on July 19. His wife had lodged a missing complaint with Bharatpur police the same day. On July 31, police registered a murder case and began investigation.
