Citizen reporter forces ECoR to revamp exp train coaches | Bhubaneswar News

Bhubaneswar: Railways will convert ICF coaches of Bangiriposi-Puri Superfast Express to modern LHB coaches very soon, after a citizen reporter raised the issue recently.
Citizen reporter, Santosh Kumar Pradhan, a retired banker staying here, said the old ICF coaches of the train (12891/12892) are in a dilapidated condition. “It is one of the very few superfast express trains that has ICF rakes. These coaches should be replaced with modern LHB coaches,” Pradhan wrote on TOI’s Citizen Reporter app.
He said it is the only daily train that connects Mayurbhanj with state capital Bhubaneswar. “Despite the order of the chief passenger transportation manager (CPTM) of East Coast Railway (ECoR) to replace the train with LHB rakes, it has not been executed by the authorities concerned,” he added.
He said LHB coaches are ready at Puri station yard and other stations. “President Droupadi Murmu belongs to Mayurbhanj district and the Centre should consider our demand. People of Mayurbhanj feel cheated due to the continued apathy of the railways. I request railway authorities to fulfil our demand,” he added.
Another train, which runs two days a week between Bhubaneswar and Bhanjpur in Baripada, doesn’t go up to Bangiriposi. “Indian Railways should take necessary steps to run another express train to connect the district with the state capital. The existing Bangiriposi-Puri Express train should maintain punctuality because it is a lifeline for Mayurbhanj people,” said Pradhan, a native of Mayurbhanj district.
ECoR on Wednesday considered the request of Pradhan. In a statement, it said, “ECoR is committed to enhancing safety and passenger comfort by converting ICF rakes with LHB.”
The ECoR statement said the conversion of LHB rakes of the Bangiriposi-Puri Express is under active consideration and provision of a compatible head-on generation (HOG) locomotive for the train is being arranged. “Upon testing and commissioning of the same, the train services will be upgraded with LHB coaches,” read ECoR’s official statement.
