Christmas festivities drenched as Bhubaneswar wakes up to heavy rain | Bhubaneswar News
BHUBANESWAR: Heavy rain on Christmas morning soaked Bhubaneswar’s festive spirit, leaving people drenched as they made their way to churches to offer prayers.
The downpour also damaged Christmas decorations across the city, dampening outdoor celebrations.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) earlier predicted light to moderate rain across most parts of Odisha, with heavy rainfall in a few areas over the next 24 hours.
“Rainfall activities will significantly reduce from Thursday,” informed Manorama Mohanty, Director of the IMD’s Bhubaneswar centre.
The rain caused a notable drop in day temperatures, forcing many residents to stay indoors or bundle up in warm clothing when stepping outside. Wet roads and waterlogging added to the challenges, disrupting movement across the city.
Despite the weather, churches witnessed a steady influx of devotees, many of whom arrived drenched but undeterred to celebrate the festival.
“It’s Christmas, and no rain can stop us from attending the Mass,” said Rina Das, a resident of Unit 4, who arrived early at the church with her family.
The IMD advised residents to remain cautious in areas likely to experience heavy rainfall and to monitor updates as the weather is expected to clear in the coming days.
