Chip to Startup prog to be implemented in 5 more colleges in Odisha: Vaishnaw | Bhubaneswar News

Bhubaneswar: Electronics and IT minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on Monday announced that the ‘Chip to Startup’ (C2S) programme will be implemented in five more colleges in Odisha. Vaishnaw made the announcement on the sidelines of the MoU signing ceremony in New Delhi for implementation of the Ayushman Bharat scheme in Odisha.
At present, the C2S programme, which provides training on semiconductor-related technology, is being implemented in four institutes in the state — IIT Bhubaneswar, NIT Rourkela, IIIT Bhubaneswar and Parala Maharaja Engineering College, Berhampur.
“The state govt will recommend us the names of the five institutes for implementing the programme,” Vaishnaw said, adding, “Subsequently, we will try to come up with a semiconductor project in Odisha and we will fulfil this dream within the next three years. Odisha will be a major IT hub in the coming days.”
The objective of the C2S programme is to train 85,000 high-quality and qualified engineers in a particular area on very large-scale integration and embedded system design. It will also help in developing 175 application-specific integrated circuits, working prototypes of 20 systems on chips and an IP core repository over a period of five years.
According to official sources, chips are widely used in mobiles, computers, gaming consoles, cars, medical equipment and other electronic devices. They have integrated circuits. Semiconductor material is used to make chips. The selected institutes teach students on how to design chips and the procedure for manufacturing them.
Sources from the ministry of electronics and IT said the C2S programme will address issues related to quality manpower training, research and development, hardware IPs design, system design, application-oriented research and development and prototype design.
At the same meeting, Union education minister Dharmendra Pradhan requested Vaishnaw to include all Odisha govt-run engineering colleges in this ‘Chip to Startup’ programme. “If these colleges teach students about semiconductor and new-age technology, it will immensely help the students and the future of semiconductors in the state and the country,” Pradhan added.
