Chief secy, DGP review security for PM’s visit

Bhubaneswar: Chief secretary Manoj Ahuja and DGP Y B Khurania on Saturday reviewed the security arrangements for the visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to launch Subhadra Yojana here on Sept 17, his birthday.
While 50 officers have been entrusted with overseeing security and crowd control, several LED televisions will be put up at selected locations in the city for people to watch the event.There will be adequate police deployment at the airport and along the route to Janata Maidan, where the launch event will take place. “The route from Biju Patnaik International Airport to Janata Maidan will be barricaded. For traffic management and parking, special care is being taken,” said DCP Prateek Singh.
DGP Khurania, twin cities’ police commissioner Sanjeeb Panda and DCP Singh had discussed PM’s security arrangements on Thursday. Khurania and Panda later inspected the venue. Earlier in the day, an eight-member SPG team arrived here to strategise security measures ahead of PM’s visit. Police anticipate a huge crowd at Janata Maida and additional female officers are also likely to be deployed at the venue since there will be more woman attendees.
This is Modi’s first visit after the council of ministers of the new BJP govt were sworn in which was attended by him and a battery of BJP politicians. Subhadra Yojana is the Mohan Majhi govt’s biggest flagship scheme which aims to financially empower 1 crore woman. The govt has already prepared a standard operating procedure (SOP) to implement the scheme.
Under the scheme, eligible beneficiaries will get Rs 5,000 each on Rakhi Purnima and International Women’s Day. This way an eligible woman beneficiary will get Rs 50,000 in five years.

Salem city and district police have devised extensive security arrangements for Vinayagar idol immersions at designated sites. The district administration has sanctioned 1,970 installations, with 1,012 within the city limits. Idol immersions will take place at Mookaneri Lake and various points along the Cauvery riverbank. More than 1,000 police personnel will be deployed to ensure safety.
