Chief Minister Nitish Kumar emphasizes on law and order as top priority in Bihar government | Patna News – Times of India
PATNA: Chief minister Nitish Kumar on Friday said law and order was the top priority of his govt and that no laxity in crime control will be tolerated. Chairing a high-level meeting at ‘Sankalp’ hall at the CM residence to review the law and order scene in the state amid allegation of a spurt in crime, Nitish directed the home (police) department officials to expedite the recruitment process for over 1.22 lakh vacant police posts in the state.
“A total of 2,29,139 posts have been sanctioned in different categories to increase the number of personnel in Bihar Police.Currently, 1,06,436 police personnel are working against the sanctioned posts. Take necessary steps to expedite the process of recruitment against the remaining vacant posts,” the CM told top officials.
State chief secretary Brijesh Mehrotra, DGP R S Bhatti, principal secretary (home) Arvind Kumar Choudhary, and all officers of additional DGP rank attended the meeting, while divisional commissioners, zonal IGs/DIGs, district magistrates, SSPs and SPs joined via videoconferencing.
Laxity in police patrolling won’t be tolerated: Nitish
Nitish asked the officers not to make any laxity in police patrolling. “Intensify the night and foot patrolling. Senior officers should visit the field and make surprise inspections of night patrolling to make it more effective,” he said.
The CM expressed satisfaction over the drop in land dispute-related murders, which have decreased from over 60% of killings to 46.69%. He stressed the need for a people-friendly police force and urged action against negligent police personnel.
The CM also called for stern measures to curb illegal mining and to address land disputes, which often escalate into serious crimes.
The review meeting came a day before an agitation planned by the opposition Grand Alliance which intends to stage demonstrations at all district headquarters on July 20 to highlight the state govt’s alleged failure to control crime.
