Chhapra: Saran DM Aman Sameer, while enumerating his priorities for the year 2025 on Tuesday, said that the district administration was working on several projects to give a facelift to Chhapra city. He said a new bus stand and four road-over-bridges (ROBs) would come up at Doriganj, Bishnupura-Revilganj Byepass and other places, to curb traffic jams caused by sand-laden trucks and increased number of vehicles.
Talking to reporters on the eve of New Year, the DM said, “Keeping people’s problems in mind, a two-storey bus stand with a provision of dormitory and parking facility will be constructed on five acres of land at an estimated cost of Rs 20 crore,” said the DM, adding plans are also on the cards that buses do not enter the city.
As per the plan, one ROB each has been planned at Bhikhari Thakur roundabout, Garkha railway crossing, Ram Nagar railway crossing and Jagdam college railway crossing or near the old postmortem house depending on the technical feasibility, he said.
The DM further said works on the proposed bypass roads at Revilganj, Garkha, Amnour and Parsa was underway, while Revilganj bypass was expected to be completed by July 2025. Regarding completion of NH 19 (New 31) between Sonepur and Chhapra, the DM said that one lane of the bridge has been opened for traffic, while hurdles in the construction of other lanes have also been cleared. Moreover, a proposal to construct an elevated road from Bishnupura to Doriganj has been prepared.
“In order to get rid of waterlogging in Chhapra city, a detailed project report (DPR) for a stormwater drainage has been prepared, besides encroachments would be cleared from the old 12km-long drain along the railway line. Considering the need of 30 years in future, five power sub-stations have been proposed one each at Medical College, Musepur, Tajpur, Amnour and Mashrakh.
Chhapra city has limited space between the railway line on the northern side and river Saryu on the southern side, but the growth of the town on the northern side necessitated these proposals for the ease of living. The DM said future development of Marhaura, Dighwara and Sonepur is also under the proposal.
Later, the DM said an attempt has been made to maintain transparency and redress problems of the district following the principles of citizen’s centric decisions. More than 12 lakh people have received their Ayushman Cards and 7-8 hospitals have been empanelled for this work.
