NEW DELHI: A Chennai-born tech entrepreneur and co-founder of a multi-billion-dollar company, Prasanna Sankar, has accused the Chennai police of harassment and alleged that his estranged wife, Divya, filed a false complaint against him, according to a report by news agency PTI.

While Divya denied his claims, the police on Monday transferred her case—related to seeking custody of their son—to the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Crime Against Women and Children (CAWC) wing in Chennai for a detailed investigation.
According to PTI, in a statement issued on Monday, the police said the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Anna Nagar, would also investigate Prasanna Sankar’s corruption allegations against an Assistant Commissioner and a Sub-Inspector.
Similarly, a complaint by his estranged wife, alleging that her husband’s assistant took away her nine-year-old son, has been transferred from Thirumangalam police to the crime against women and children wing of the city police for investigation.
Police said Divya Sasidhar lodged a complaint withThirumangalam police on March 9, claiming that her husband’s assistant, Gokul, took her nine-year-old son from her, promising to bring him back in two days, but never returned.
On Sunday, her husband Prasanna Sankar took to social media alleging harassment by police officers saying they demanded Rs 25 lakh to release Gokul.
A Community Service Register (CSR) entry was made, and an initial inquiry began. Meanwhile, Prasanna took to social media, alleging that the ACP and SI had demanded Rs 25 lakh to resolve the dispute with his wife, the police statement said.
To verify his claims, the case was assigned to the DCP. Additionally, Divya’s case was moved to the CAWC for a proper investigation, the police added.
A senior police official earlier dismissed Prasanna’s allegations, stating, “Our team is probing a complaint by the woman. The allegations are baseless.”
Following Prasanna’s social media post claiming that an ACP and an SI demanded money to release his friend from alleged custody, Divya told reporters that her son had been taken away by her husband’s manager, Gokul, on March 3.
“My son has not been returned to me. I want to know his whereabouts,” she said.
However, police stated that Gokul was released in the afternoon on March 23.
According to Divya’s complaint, both she and her nine-year-old son are US citizens who had arrived in India three weeks ago.
Prasanna, in his social media post, stated, “My wife and I have been going through a divorce and have been sharing custody of our son. My wife handed over the child with full consent to my friend (Gokul), who brought him two floors down to hand him over to me. However, my wife later filed a false complaint that my friend kidnapped my son and that I might kill him.”
He further alleged that his lawyer, despite his objections, paid Rs 2 lakh to the police to manage the situation.
Prasanna also posted a video with his son, asserting that the child was happy with him and accusing the Chennai police of illegally detaining his friend to pressure him into revealing his whereabouts.
