Chennai Robber Caught After Attacking Woman Posing as Courier | Chennai News – The Times of India

CHENNAI: A robber attempted to steal a gold chain from a woman after sneaking into a residential apartment on the 200-feet Tambaram-Maduravoyal bypass road under the pretext of being a courier delivery man on Wednesday.
As she struggled with the man and screamed for help, the robber attacked her on her face and escaped.
Within hours of the incident, a police team apprehended the suspect, identified as Sachin, 24, with the help of CCTV camera footage. The video clip of the suspect buzzing the alarm bell and hiding on the verandah was leaked on social media on Thursday.
Police said Manish Rani, 40, is a resident of the tenth floor in a fourteen-storey apartment building. Her husband is employed as a General Manager of the Punjab National Bank.
The suspect persistently knocked and rang the doorbell until the resident responded. When Manish Rani, who was waiting for her husband to return from work, opened her door to check, the perpetrator launched the attack.
The woman managed to battle with the suspect, raising the alarm. After the residents gathered at the place, the robber left and escaped. The injured woman was admitted to the corporate hospital in the neighbourhood.
Based on her complaint, the police apprehended the suspect, identified as Sachin, 21, who was involved in more than 10 crime cases in the city. The cops are inquiring the security guard about the reason for letting him inside the apartment complex.
