Chennai man gets one-year rigorous imprisonment for threatening to release nude photos of minor girl – The Times of India

PUDUCHERRY: A court in Puducherry sentenced a man from Chennai to one year of rigorous imprisonment for threatening a 17-year-old girl by telling her that he would upload her nude photos on social media if she did not yield to his sexual desires.
Pocso court judge M D Sumathi awarded a compensation of Rs 25,000 to the minor girl.
D Praveen alias Praveenkumar, 22, a labourer at a private company in Chennai, became friends with the minor girl when she was living in the same locality in Chennai. The girl shared her private photos with him. However, she broke up with him after learning about his intentions for a physical relationship, according to special public prosecutor S Patcheappan.
The girl’s parents moved to Puducherry with her. Praveen started calling her and threatening to release the nude photos she had shared with him earlier. The girl informed her mother about the man blackmailing her. Her mother lodged a complaint with the Mudaliarpet police on Feb 3, 2022.
The police booked him under Section 12 (punishment for sexual harassment) of the Pocso Act and arrested him.
