CHENNAI: A private Bharat Gaurav tourist train from Chennai to Kashmir is set to depart on April 2, offering a 15-day journey at a subsidized fare ranging from Rs 50,000 to Rs 65,500.
The train, operated by South Star Rail in collaboration with Southern Railway, will cover Agra, Delhi, and Amritsar, with passengers taken to key attractions such as Taj Mahal, Fatehpur Sikri, Golden Temple, and Pahalgam.
During city stopovers, tourists can leave their heavy luggage on the train under security surveillance and travel with smaller bags in shuttle vans or buses. Hotel stays have been arranged for short overnight halts.
Fresh vegetarian South Indian food will be served onboard, prepared in the train’s pantry for all 650 passengers throughout the journey. The package includes a 33% subsidy from the Railways. Bookings are available exclusively through www.tourtimes.in or via 7305858585.
Since the launch of the Bharat Gaurav scheme in 2021, Southern Railway has operated 80 private tourist trains from Chennai to destinations in Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, and beyond, carrying over 40,000 tourists. In Tamil Nadu, two private operators, IRCTC and South Star Rail, run these services under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model.
