Chembur businessman duped of Rs 49.5 lakh by Pune land sellers | Mumbai News – Times of India

Mumbai: A Chembur businessman has been duped of Rs 49.5 lakh by six of a family by promising him land in Pune.
Immit Singh, responding to an advertisement, contacted Laxman Nimbalkar, who sold him a one-acre plot in Mulshi for Rs 22 lakh. “On April 8, Singh paid Rs 1 lakh as token money,” a police officer said.
Singh made additional payments totalling Rs 23.5 lakh through bank transfer and in cash.In Oct, Nimbalkar informed Singh of issues with the Mulshi plot and offered an alternative three-acre plot in Pomgaon, Pune, priced at Rs 18 lakh per acre. Nimbalkar assured him he would handle the survey and property documents, and took another Rs 10 lakh for establishing an electricity link and road connectivity to the plot.
Two weeks later no work had begun, and Nimbalkar claimed it would start after property registration. He took an additional Rs 14 lakh for documentation. Nimbalkar and his brother made him sign some documents too, said the police.
“When asked for registration documents, Nimbalkar said he would give it in a week or two. On April 26, Nimbalkar called Singh and said that the Neral police had arrested his father in a cheating case and hence he urgently need Rs 15 lakh for bail,” the officer said.
Singh later realised no land was registered in his name.
